Anneka had a bad night

OK, I seem to be the only one that thinks this anymore --

But if you come home incoherantly drunk, unable to hold your head up, puking -- so much so that someone has to be in the room with you until THREE IN THE MORNING on a TUESDAY to make sure you don't DIE --- and the following morning if you continue the pattern of making loud phone calls before your roommate is awake because you don't bother to get out of bed to talk -- it's pretty freaking rude. That sucks. I just made tea loudly and angrily.

Oh my God that sounds like such a dorm nightmare. I can't believe your roommate did that to you. She seems to be having real trouble with basic boundaries and common courtesy. I hope that the two of you can talk, though she certainly does not seem like a communicator -- but perhaps you can talk with a mediator like your RF. Or just talk to the RF about the situation. One thing to remember, and it's hard: you can't change someone else's behavior. You CAN decide how you want to deal with it, and there are a ton of options in that bag. Your roommate clearly has huge weird baggage with family and boyfriend and money and who knows what else. What a shame that she's drenching you in all the drama. I wish you strength and humor as you deal with this problematic person. One nice thing: for sophomore year and beyond, you can choose your own roommates (if that's any comfort...) I hope the day has turned out to be much, much better... On a lighter note: the conspiracy web site had people on it saying that a gigantic alien mothership would arrive in our skies on October 14. People even took a day off of work to be "ready." Last I checked, no mothership ;--)) Love, Mommy

ughhhhh my dear that sounds so un-fun. speaking as someone who dealt with roomie issues last year, i know how awkward/weird/frustrating they are. BUT i also know that most of my friends this year were NOT roomates last year--i.e., most people's friend groups aren't based around roomies. but at the same time, living with the person can be tough. hang in there and call any time :)

p.s. have you gotten any more blue envelopes? ;)

Oh, no... I'm so sorry that this happened. And it wasn't even on a weekend!

No real solutions here, as others have noted. But still, here's one suggestion that would help in the case of the phone calls. I really recommend that you sit down and talk with her, and insist on a basic and pretty simple ground rule: no phone calls in the room if the other person is asleep, whether that's at night or in the morning or even an afternoon nap. The key thing is to bring this up when there's not an immediate issue (i.e., not during a phone call). It's really not hard to say, "let me call you right back", and get out of the room to return the call. It's not an imposition to ask for agreement on that simple a rule.

Another thing (not that it would help with respect to your sleep): if your roommate or anyone else you know comes home that drunk, it might be a good idea always to get other (say, RA) help in evaluating the situation. This is for everyone's benefit, actually. Remember that college kids literally do die every year because of binge drinking, and it's actually not all that easy to tell where a drinking spree has crossed the line into being life-threatening.

Anyway, hang in there. Have another cup of tea. All things will pass.

Love, Dad
