Anneka doesn't play well with others

I'm working on two big group projects, due Tuesday and Wednesday. Neither of them is started, really, and both groups are totally dysfunctional. One is three high maintenance boys and me, trying to create our own Utopia: one boy shoots down everyone's ideas and then borderline refuses to contribute and all of which are flaky. The other group is for my drama class, and includes an overachieving, passive-aggressive girl who wanted to block, light, and costume a scene for Tuesday (totally unnecessary) and burst into tears when no one jumped for joy at the thought. Right now I'm sitting in Old Union waiting to meet with that group. One person already called me to say they'd be 15 minutes late.

Both groups like, refuse to schedule, and when we do schedule, refuse to show up. It's SO FRUSTRATING. Who said group work would be easier at Stanford?

Anneka is cranky

I could not be more excited to go home. In 8 days I'll be home. But here's the thing, it's not like I'm coming home from camp or vacation. It's not permanent. I'll be home for a week and then for Christmas and then oops this is still my life. How odd. I think I'll find it very hard to leave on January 5th, knowing I won't be back until like March.

I DON'T KNOW HOW TO EAT. Dinner's so crappy I don't even eat it so I'm absolutely famished right now and my choices are, legit, Easy Mac or chicken strips. And I have a headache. And house meeting was really obnoxious. And all my groups for my group projects are super annoying and messed up (overachievers in one, underachievers in another) and I have to finish them all by like TUESDAY OF NEXT WEEK and dshjfkalhfjkdalshdfjklshdfjklashfjkdlsahfjklahsdf.

I want to go home and eat good food until I'm full.

Anneka wants to go home

I am so frustrated with the people by whom I am surrounded.

Anneka is getting fat

I need to go to the store and buy a desk lamp, multivitamins, raspberry Emergen-C, Sudafed, and a fridge.

The fridge is necessary because I'm getting more and more frustrated with my eating habits facilitated by the dining hall. It is so so terribly difficult to find healthy things that taste good here. What's worse, snacking is impossible because the dining hall closes all the time. I eat two meals a day (I'm not up in time for breakfast). Since I usually eat dinner at 5:30, I'm generally hungry again by 10. Solution? Delicious chicken strips from Late Night. Deep fried. Salty. $6.50. Chicken strips. Garnished with waffle fries.

NOT GOOD NOT GOOD NOT GOOD.

So, what? Huge amounts of salad and flabby tofu twice a day in an attempt to fill me up all afternoon and all night? Moratorium on cookies and soft serve ice cream? Throw away my remaining packets of Easy Mac? I don't know what to do. I LONG for pea soup and sausage, spaghetti and meatballs, clam chowder at Duke's.

Although, when I do come home, my only concrete plans involve eating, and not necessarily healthily (Red Robin, Rosita's, Pagliacci, Red Mango, Noah's Bagels to name a few).

And I am really truly needing to come home all of a sudden. Counting the days (13).

Anneka is a blur

1. OBAMA! I teared up watching his acceptance speech. John McCain was extraordinarily gracious in his concession as well.

2.  AK, AR, FL, and freaking CA all banned gay marriage or gay adoption as of last night. What is happening? I can't believe Prop 8 passed in CA. Someone said it's the first time the Constitution has been amended to take away rights rather than give them. It's so upsetting.

3. Light rail?

4. I'm so sick. I have a terrible sore, swollen throat. Ouch ouch ouch. And I'm almost out of Emergen-C. Oh no.

Anneka finds time to update her blog

Election day election election election election. People are very very tense on campus. There are actually quite a few secret McCain supporters around, making for some heated lunchtime discussions. Yikessss.

It's been rainy the last few days. I stuffed a washcloth in my bag on the way out the door to wipe off my bike seat, only to discover that my seat is in fact porous: no way to avoid a wet tush. At least I'm lucky that I have fenders, so I don't get that "freshman stripe" up my back. The rain here is thicker than Seattle rain, but it still makes me feel cozy and a little homesick.

Robbie's visit was wonderful, of course, see above picture of our not-lame Halloween costume. I was even able to sneak him into the school-sponsored dance.

I bombed my French test yesterday. That was upsetting. I studied, too. We'll see.
